Ukraine Pictures

This is St. Michaels cathedral in Kiev, from here we accessed the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (Kievan Cave Monastery) which was the creepiest thing I have ever seen. I am glad that I did see it but I never have to see it again. It was a series of under ground caves filled with dead bodies. The bodies were of the saints and monks of the monastery's past. Drapped over the glass caskets were weeping mourners and wailing worshipers and it was weird! The bodies of the saints were hundreds of years old and not completely covered, a decayed hand or skull could be seen in the candle light.

Row upon row of monks were laid in rooms with skulls piled eye level from the floor. There were rooms where monks locked themselves in away from the world for years, with only a small port hole to receive food and water. There was a dead monk that buried himself in the ground to the chest and people called him a saint. It made my skin crawl.
